"When peace like a river, atendeth my way." So is written, and sung, the first line of It Is Well With My Soul.
As I sat in the pew this Sunday, and sung these lyrics, I could not help but think about rivers and how they really do help bring peace. I wrote, not too long ago, about Thin Places. These are places where the division between Heaven and Earth is so thin, that you can really feel a spiritual presence. These places may be different to everyone, but I think most would find that a solo trip on a remote stretch of river can lead you to a thin place.
Part of this is the "peace" of a river. My mind gets lost in the solitude and the random, yet rhythmic, flow of the waters.
Rivers are a life source, for all of Gods creatures. A source that we should respect, protect, and preserve.
